Submissions are currently CLOSED

We will update this page when they are open at a later time. Please check back then.

Who is eligible to submit?

We welcome work from both emerging and established writers and creatives from around the world. We especially encourage submissions from underrepresented groups in terms of ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, gender, socio-economic status, disability, and neurodivergence.

What are you looking for?

Not all submission calls are the same. Overall we are looking for polished pieces that have already gone through a couple rounds of self-editing. Our past publications have been zines and anthologies that contain short stories and/or poetry.

In terms of genres, we are open to all, and there is no preference for one over the other. Please read each submission call carefully for specifics and abide by stated guidelines.

Is there a submission fee and will I be paid for my work?

We do not charge submission fees. We believe the path to publishing should be accessible and that everyone’s work deserves equal consideration.

At this time, we cannot offer payment to our contributors for publication as we are a small, volunteer-run association. We will endeavour to pay contributors where possible, especially in the case that a grant is received for a specific project.

What is your editing process like?

All accepted submissions undergo two rounds of edits. Contributors will be paired with an editor whom they will work with to meet the publication deadlines. Contributors must be comfortable with discussing their work and editing it for content, consistency, and grammatical errors.

Who owns the right to my work?

Unless stated otherwise in the submissions call, Forest Publications will retain exclusive physical and digital publishing rights for one year after the date of publication. Afterward, the story will remain available in all formats of the book, but all rights revert to you. Note that your story will then be considered previously published, which may affect future submission opportunities with other markets, as not all markets accept previously published work. If your work is republished, it must be indicated that your story was originally published with Forest Publications.

My general question isn’t answered above.
